: : Chilli Peppers : :

It's been awhile since I last ate here. Had a very late lunch with Min Yen and Leslie a.k.a. Sorceress.

Such a pretty dish, no? This is mee jawa. The one ingredient that makes the mee tastes good is the sauce. I'm not sure how to make it except that it tastes really nice. No, I did not have this but Min Yen did.

Two tempting bowls of ais kacang. One is ABC i.e. everything in it and the other is jagung i.e. just with corn. And I remember two old chaps from Texas complaining about this drink with corn inside it. It's an Asian thing, ya know.

oh that's so yummy :) i am going to eat that the first morning i arrive in singapore!!!

Wena,

If Min Yen had mee jawa, what did you have? Or did you just have ice kacang? By the way, the ice kacang looks good! That's something that I need to try. My friends from S'pore said that our local "shaved ice" is not anywhere near as good as the ice kacang and cendol that you get there!

Hi Reid,

Well, am not sure how the shaved-ice-drink that's over in Hawaii tastes like. The ones we get here are mixed with condensed milk, syrup, gula melaka and a dash of rose syrup. At times, coconut milk is used instead of condensed milk although it's hard to find coconut milk these days.

Have a try and see how you like it in Singapore. It's very very addictive and very filling too! A sinful dessert.

hmm... i love mee java too. you are right, wena, the sauce give the taste but don't ask me how it is made since i only knows how to eat. :)

in penang, we usually had mee java in 2 style - 'rebus' i.e. with soup (like the pic you have) or 'goreng' (fried)... which turns out to be something like indian mee goreng. of course it is the 'rebus' that is more popular.

ice kacang? very popular in penang! there's one that is well known for ice cream topping and also believe it or not durian! but i don't like ice kacang.
